Zhao Qing has been assisting international clients with a wide range of IP matters in China for more than 10 years.

He specializes in supporting enforcement and registry work for companies in the F&B, fashion and manufacturing industries.

He regularly helps multinational company clients with brand protection and enforcement strategies in both contentious and non-contentious matters. He strategizes for and conducts administrative actions combating counterfeiting and domain name/company name hijacking, and customs actions.

He is also experienced in the preparation and implementation of IP agreements, settlement negotiations and compliance review leveraging clients’ IP rights with sharp business acumen to protect clients’ best interests.

He was operations director at a leading risk management consultancy where he advised multinational clients on China-specific commercial fraud and IP violations for over six years.

Work Highlights

  • Coordinated police raids against a large network of counterfeiters across six provinces of China for multiple clients in the tobacco industry with a total of RMB 400 million worth of fakes discovered and 22 culprits sentenced.
  • Negotiated a global settlement agreement for a renowned luggage supplier in a trademark dispute.
  • Assisted an international client with its multimillion-dollar domain name acquisition deal.
  • Acted on behalf of a global leader in the membrane filtration industry against a network of aggressive infringers with ringleaders jailed and bogus companies in China and the US dissolved ultimately.
  • Advised a health food company on investigations and creative actions against a group of serial trademark squatters led by an American lawyer to force the latter to give back pirated marks in China.
  • Provided investigative and evidence-gathering support to a famous cosmetics brand in its retrial with the Chinese Supreme Court to secure registration of its mark before launching the brand in China.
  • Assisting a well-known American sportswear brand in obtaining a general bond from PRC Customs for IP protection.
  • Represented a major film studio in more than 100 cases to successfully deter trademark and copyright infringement through warning letters, complaints and negotiations.
