Joanna Hui is a Senior Counsel specialising in intellectual property.
She advises multinational and regional clients on both contentious and non-contentious intellectual property matters across a broad range of industries, including technology, real estate and pharmaceuticals. Her practice focuses on trademark portfolio management, including the development and implementation of global and regional filing and prosecution strategies. She regularly handles opposition, invalidation, revocation and cancellation proceedings in Hong Kong, mainland China and other jurisdictions.
She also advises on domain name disputes, including domain name hijacking cases, and on enforcement strategies against counterfeiting and brand infringement across Asia.
Joanna has further experience in a range of commercial IP matters, including licensing, assignment and coexistence agreements, as well as advertising-related agreements. She has advised leading multinational corporations on anti-counterfeiting strategies, including administrative enforcement actions, criminal prosecutions and customs seizures across multiple jurisdictions in Asia.
Before entering private practice, Joanna trained with the Department of Justice of Hong Kong, where she gained experience in civil litigation, criminal prosecutions, legislative drafting and advisory work.
Joanna graduated from The Chinese University of Hong Kong with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) with First Class Honours and obtained her Postgraduate Certificate in Laws (PCLL) from the same university. She is admitted as a solicitor in Hong Kong.
Prior to joining East IP, Joanna practised at the Hong Kong office of an international law firm, where she was a senior associate of the Intellectual Property and TMT team.
