James is a seasoned intellectual property lawyer with a practice encompassing trademark prosecution, portfolio management, and enforcement. He provides strategic counsel on a wide spectrum of IP matters, including AI-generated content, copyright, designs, licensing, and advertising law, as well as specialized issues such as Chinese branding, parallel imports, and OEM arrangements.
He regularly guides international companies on developing robust IP protection strategies prior to market entry in China. James manages global IP portfolios for brand owners across diverse sectors, including aviation, consumer electronics, luxury fashion, pharmaceuticals, and technology, working closely with their in-house legal teams and business units.
James has successfully directed anti-counterfeiting operations and complex litigation at all levels. He has also secured numerous high-value trademarks and domain names through confidential negotiations and has obtained well-known trademark recognition for a significant number of clients.
An active thought leader, James frequently writes and speaks on emerging IP issues. He contributes to the field as a member of the China Subcommittee of INTA’s Trademark Office Practices Committee.
James holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Postgraduate Certificate in Laws from the University of Hong Kong. He is admitted to practice in Hong Kong and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and is fluent in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese.
